Atlantique Productions

Atlantique Productions specialises in developing and producing ambitious international television projects.

Through its production of programmes such as Borgia, Transporter and Death in Paradise, Atlantique has gained a considerable expertise in international productions and now boasts a solid network of talent from both Europe and the US. Atlantique’s aim now is to offer high-value artistic and production content, the consistency and relevance of which will be of interest to a fast-changing world market – as is the case with US programmes.

Being able to meet this aim will first and foremost mean choosing appropriate subjects:

- Borgia, the historical story of a family which brings together several European countries to recount the destiny of its protagonists, was created by Tom Fontana, one of America’s most talented screenwriters (Oz, Homicide). It was directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall, Das Experiment), Dearbhla Walsh (The Tudors), Metin Hüseyin (Merlin) and Christoph Schrewe (The Conclave). The series comprises twelve 52-min episodes and is co-produced by EOS Entertainment in Germany and Canal + in France in association with Etic Films in the Czech Republic with the involvement of ZDF, ORF and Sky Italia.

- Transporter, a series of twelve 52-min episodes, is based on Luc Besson’s Transporter film series, a European franchise that has been hugely successful throughout the world. The series is a Franco Canadian co-production and is being produced by Atlantique and QVF Inc. in association with M6, RTL, HBO/Cinemax, Movie Central and The Movie Network.

- Death in Paradise is an Agatha Christie-style police drama that follows the cases of an English inspector and his French partner on the Caribbean island of Sainte Marie. The eight hour-long episodes are being produced by Red Planet Pictures in association with BBC Worldwide and Kudos Film and TV for France Télévisions and BBC One. This is the first time that France Télévisions has worked with the BBC on a drama production.

The budgets for all these productions are similar to those of major US dramas, and are further supported by European and international financing. And they also enable the most talented European writers, producers and actors to work together – and with the best US talent available if necessary. So Atlantique is establishing itself as a European company with a truly global influence. And the same applies to its projects.

Being a producer means being sensitive to the hopes and needs of the audience. With the emergence of new means of broadcasting and access to content anytime and anywhere, we need to continue to develop in order to improve quality and produce more innovative content. The renewal of French production, particularly regarding drama, requires a more international approach. We need to build a close relationship with producers from other countries, attract French and international talent in order to offer new programs to our partners and also the public worldwide. We believe this is one of our major challenges for remaining creative in the future, and we intend to be actively involved.
